Bangladesh Rural Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene for Human Capital Development Project:

The Government of Bangladesh (GoB) intends to implement the Bangladesh Rural Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Human Capital Development Project with financial support from the World Bank (WB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank IAIIB) to reform institutions and improve WASH services that meet the ‘Safety-managed’ in the line with SDG targets 6.1 and 6.2. The Project Development Objectives are to (i) improve access and quality of water supply, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services in selected areas of rural Bangladesh, and (ii) strengthen sector policy and institutional capacity. Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE), and PKSF’s partner organizations will implement specific components of this project.

The project duration is from 2021 to 2025. The total budget for PKSF-designated components of the project is $328.92 million ($ 184.47 million as International Development credit and $ 144.34 million as PKSF’s contribution) which is implemented by the partner organization of PKSF. The World Bank, PKSF, and DPHE will work together in 78 upazilas of 18 districts in 4 divisions. Approximately 1,20,000 households will get a safe water supply and 10,00,000 households will get hygiene sanitation facilities under the project.

As a partner organization of PKSF, Samajik Seba Shonghothon is implementing this project in Valuka upazila of Mymensing district. It’s a very new project. Samajik Seba Shonghothon has a past history of free Tube-well installation (135) and created free sanitary Latrines (300) for mosques, Mandir, schools, market place and poor people’s houses in rural areas of Tangail districts.

In the financial 2021-2022, Samajik Seba Shonghothon has got Tk. 91,00,000 to implement the Bangladesh Rural Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene for Human Capital Development Project.
